Hello Troop 282,
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and those at Duck parking are staying warm and safe. Our October camp-out is next weekend and I would like to be sure we are all on the same page. On Tuesday October 3rd, the final decisions were made to go to Birthday Lake-Upper/Lower Island Lakes area. This is a backpacking outing. There are no designated camp grounds. We will be doing dispersed camping in the woods at a location picked by the scouts. Those going should be prepared for a 4 mile hike to camp on Saturday morning the 14th and a 5 mile hike out the 15th. We will be meeting at ECS at 7am on Saturday morning and anticipate returning around 3pm Sunday afternoon to ECS (parents/guardians please make sure if you have a Scout attending that your phones are on and you are ready for calls to pick up your Scouts on Sunday, we have had a few hiccups with parents not being available to pick up Scouts on returns from some events and this isn’t fair to those leaders that have to wait with your scout, please respect their time and be available). We will be hiking in on Forest Service trail 3674 and hiking out via trails 3586 and 3682. Vehicles will be parked at both the trail heads on the 5897 road.
I was pleased to find out that camp fire restrictions were lifted and we will be allowed to have a campfire. Some of our older scouts are wishing to challenge themselves a little more and may go for a hike to the top of Mount Fuji after making camp if time allows. Other Scouts are looking forward to fishing and hanging out in camp. I have verbal commitments at this time from several experienced Scouters that will allow us to break off into groups should the Scouts decide to do so. At this time we have Don Harkins, Karl Saxman, Michael Donahue, Kevin Olson, Carlo Yozzo and myself planning on going. This list is not closed and if any other adults who are approved to go on 282 outings want to go, please contact me.
Those planning on fishing who are 12 and older should have their fishing license with them and their own gear(boys 11 years and younger are not required to have a fishing license to fish). Please pack for expected weather conditions and be prepared if nature calls! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns via e-mail(brahamjames) or by cell phone.
It would be extremely helpful if you could let me know if you or your scout is planning to attend before Tuesday’s meeting, via the Facebook page, e-mail or phone. If your Scout is going, please turn in the attached permission form at the beginning of Tuesday nights meeting.
