Hello Scouts, Scouters, and Parents:

Duck parking is only 3 weeks away!

If you will turn 12 before December 1, you may be eligible for some Duck Parking jobs. This year, there are several jobs that 12 & 13 year old Scouts can do with their parents accompanying them (guard duty & curb duty). All jobs are available for Scouts 14 years and over. As in previous years, we try our best to accommodate everyone’s top choices for games and jobs they want most to work.

This year we will not be waving and spinning signs. While we did a good job doing this the last couple of years, the Boy Scouts Duck Parking Committee decided that a Cub Scout Pack with parents “look cuter” and may draw more people to park in the Boy Scouts lots.

What was added back this year is collecting cans and bottles. Before you groan, know that this year, the hourly wage for collecting cans and bottles is the same as it is for Duck Parking! We are expecting over $15 per hour!!!! How can we do this? The bottle return doubled this year to 10 cents each. But the huge change is that we don’t have to sort them, and that will save us time. We pick them up, put them in a bag, get the bag to the trailer and we are done. This year, we will be collecting cans and bottles in all Boy Scout Lots including the DYS lot to the east of our lot.

Please read through the enclosed document and sign the page saying that you have read and agree to it. We must have a signed agreement from everyone who works at Duck Parking jobs. (That includes parents — who also need to have a current Registration and Youth Protection certificate too.) Just as last year, Parents and Scouters will not be paid for their work. As adults, we help our Scouts to fundraise for their ability to pay for their trip to summer camp next year! However, by working at least 3 Duck Parking jobs and 20 hours, you become a “Star Scouter” and will have your campouts and BSA Registration paid for by the Troop.

So here are the dates for working. There are 7 home games. Please rank (1,2,3,4,5,7…) the jobs that you would like to do with 1 being your top choice and a big number being one that you could still work but you would rather not. Also, put a 0 (zero) next to those games/jobs that you know you cannot work. If it doesn’t matter to you, put ANY.

Please email your preferences to Mr. Harkins by Monday, August 14 at (harkinsdon). We do our best to make sure that everyone gets their top choices if they are eligible. We hope to let you know August 22 at Troop, which dates you will be working. Remember that once you have been given dates to work, you are committed to work those dates and if you are unable to work any of your assigned dates, contact Mr. Harkins. You may not swap games with others without coordinating with him. So please rank only those games that you are sure that you can work. If you are still waiting for your sports or band schedules from school and cannot commit right now, please tell him this and the dates you best think you will be available.

Thank you. This will be an exciting season and a great opportunity to earn money for going to summer camp next year!

Mr. Harkins, Mr. Yozzo, Mr. Braham, & Mr. Adolf
